OK, so I've searched and found pretty much everything I could find on wheel spacers. But my research has raised a question: From what I've seen, 1" spacers won't work with the stock lug bolts. Someone mentioned going to the hardware store and getting bolts to attach them. I don't know but I suspect 2" spacers might work if the holes for the attaching bolts are deep enough. Anyway, I've attached a 'homemade' drawing of my question. The cross section of the spacer shows the holes are tapered. When a 'regular' bolt is inserted, it seats on the edge of the taper and not flush with any part of the spacer. Is this a potential problem? Or are there spacers that don't use the stock lug bolts?
It is also my finding that spacer 'suppliers' don't realize that the Renegade uses lug bolts and not studs and nuts (the reason for the taper.) Since my original post, I've yet more research and find that some spacers actually specify that the stock lug bolts will not work and 'low profile' lug bolts are required. I didn't even know there was such a thing!
I don't know what the answer is but I know now that spacers with 'after market' bolts will not work. My 225x65x17's clear without the spacers so will leave it at that for now. Good luck, y'all, I'm back to lurk mode.
This depends on which wheels you have. Some wheels have a notch between the holes deep enough for the lug bolts to go inside of. If not, you can buy lug bolts with a lower profile head so they are below the mounting face of the spacer.
I was able to get 1.25” wheel spacers installed but I did have to buy short lug bolts to attach them. Make sure to get a solid set of wheel spacers, not some cheap junk that will come flying off on the highway. We also used locktite when installing them.
