Just saw this article on Fox News Latino where Mike Manley, the president and CEO of Chrysler Group LLC's Jeep explains how FCA is looking to Jeep to be its main brand in terms of global sales and as soon as 2018. As ambitious as it may sound, they are shooting to sell about 2 million vehicles annually which is about the same amount as Fiat sells now. Of course, in order to be a "global" success, you need to have products that can be effectively sold globally and, that's where new vehicles like the Jeep Renegade come in to play.

Mike Manley, president and CEO of Chrysler Group LLC's Jeep unit, told Efe here that the Jeep brand is expected to double its worldwide sales to nearly 2 million units annually by 2018, thanks to the rollout of new models, like the Renegade, and the start of manufacturing in key markets, such as Brazil and China.
This strategy will allow Jeep, which has implemented a global expansion plan with the launch in Europe, the Americas and Asia of the new Renegade model, to establish itself as one of the growth brands at Fiat Chrysler Automobile, or FCA.

Jeep has invested billions of dollars in developing the manufacturing process for the Renegade, especially in Brazil, where the brand will open for business in the first quarter of 2015 in Pernambuco state, unveiling FCA's most modern manufacturing plant, a facility that cost more than $2.8 billion.

The company is also evaluating the possibility of producing the Jeep Renegade in Asia.

"Jeep is one of FCA's global brands. And it is a brand that has not only contributed significant growth to the group over the past five years, but is going to continue doing so. There is no doubt about its importance," Manley said in an interview with Efe.

FCA's plans call for Jeep to be the company's main brand in terms of global sales by 2018, selling about 2 million units annually, the same number of units as Fiat.

Jeep sales will have to grow about 22 percent to hit the target.

This growth will "come from two key elements. The first will be entering new segments, and relevant segments. Like segment B of SUVs, whose sales forecasts for the end of 2015 are for 2 million units," Manley said.

"This is a new segment that we have not been in, which is very important globally and in which we are going to be very competitive with the Renegade," the executive said.

"The second element is new products," Manley said.

In automotive markets like Brazil, which ranks No. 4 in the world, and China, "we have been significantly limited because we just imported," Manley said.

The situation will change once the plant in Pernambuco starts operating, the executive said.

"To the extent that we match the situation in Brazil and China with local production, it will open up enormous opportunities that we have to take advantage of because no one is going to give them to us. But they are opportunities that we did not have in the past," Manley said. EFE
