Hey everyone! We took our new Renegade home yesterday. When I started it up at the dealership the service engine light came on... the salesman mentioned that the guy who drove it over from another dealership for me to pick up killed it and thought that may be what was up, but recommended when I return to finalize some paperwork on Monday to have them see what was up if it's still illuminated. Everything seems fine, although I'm not seeing the mpg they advertised (not surprised there as I understand that's under ideal conditions). Anyone have similar experiences with a brand new 1.4l engine? This is a '16.

Cant really help you too much unless we know what the code is. Get a scan tool or take it to a parts store. Most of them will read the code for free, but since the ink on your paperwork hasn't dried yet, just let the dealer fiddle with it. Personally, I wouldn't have left the lot with it until they fixed the reason for the code.

I didn't really want to leave but it was a Saturday and their service dept isn't open Saturdays.

Well, it went away with sufficient driving. I'll be on the lookout for it to reappear, hopefully this doesn't turn out to be one of the few which seem to constantly throw codes.

I hope it doesn't come back. FYI, we have been to auto zone twice to have a code checked out, but they were unable to read it.

From what I have read and gathered from the interwebs, those of us who got thr 1.4L manual have minimal problems compared to those who got the 2.4 engines.

I can personally say that the only time I have any codes come up were because of my own doing. I like to tinker. Ohh and get a code scanner. It will help you a lot.

I gathered the same about the 1.4l vs 2.4l engines. I'll cross my fingers! I'm thinking of investing in a code scanner, though. Even just to be able to fact-check the dealership if needbe.

Definitely get one. Use the Torque app on your cell phone/tablet and get a compatable bluetooth obdii thingie (the torque app lists them) . Much cheaper that way.

Or if you don't mind spending a bit more, i recommend the Bluedriver obdii scanner. Comes with its own app.
