    Hello fellow toaster friends,

I am in need of some help in selecting tires. After reading another post it seems that rebel off road was successfully able to fit a 245/70r17 tire on a renny lifted with the daystar lift. I have the lift installed and am looking at new all terrain tires. I've narrowed my tire size to either 245/70r17 or 245/65r17. The tires I'm considering will be one of those two sizes. And yes I'll be adding spacers. Bora 1.25" to be exact.

So. I need some input on what tires to go with. Here is what I am considering thus far:

    BFG KO2's
    Nitto Terra Grappler G2
    Nitto Terra Grappler
    Maxxis Bighorn
    Toyo Open County AT II
    General Grabber AT2

I love the beefier look that come with the ko2's and maxxis bighorns. But I'm not sure I want to spend that much unless they are really worth it. I've had the Grabber AT2's before on a previous jeep but only for a short time before I sold the car.

So basically, which would you pick and why?

The KO2's are the only ones I have experience with, but I'd buy them again in a heartbeat. They look aggressive, they handle terrain really well, and they're rated for a ridiculously long service life. After seeing BFG tires on friend's vehicles, I trust them to hold up the way they say they will. Been super impressed with them already.

That's what I like to hear. I'm very strongly leaning towards those. But I've heard great things about Nitto as well. I'm just not sure if they will have the look I want. I really like that aggressive, beefy look.

Does anyone know if they was any pinch seam modifications done for the 245s? I was also leaning towards them but the are 9.76" wide....

I never saw anything about Rebel Offroad having to do the pinch weld mod. I'm going to email them to find out for sure. I know that they used a 1.25" wheel spacer and stock wheels that have a 40mm offset. My aftermarket wheels have the same offset so the way I figure it I should get about the same results with a 245/70r17 tire like Rebel did.

What tires are you looking at? 245 should be about 9.65" wide.

I just sent Rebel Offroad an email and already received a response. They said the 245/70r17's fit with minimal trimming. So I would assume some minimal fender liner trimming but did not to modifiy the pinch seam.

Ok thanks, I looked in my well space and there really is not much behind the plastics. I wonder if there is a way to much those back a bit.

There might be. I haven't looked in there to determing if it's doable. I'm only going to attempt that if I can't get away with doing some trimming to ensure everything fits. But I'm going to wait until I get the tires mounted and am home installing them.

There is a pinch weld that sticks out, more so on drivers side, that will run when turning on larger tire setups. With the offset you'll run, you may clear it, you may make it worse.

Nitto Terragrappler G2 is replacing the Terra Grappler, so that helps you eliminate that.
My 1st off-road trip with my TH, there was a dude with a fairly new 4Runner on the nittos, said he couldn't wait to get into the KO2s (I was running Yoko ATSs back then). He complained of a thin sidewall, tire got cut in a creek bed his 1st trip out. He had it replaced, but said he hoped the BFG would help.

Nittos are quieter, but you can tell just looking at the tread, than the KO2. Off-road grip, beyond twice as good. I run KO2s and air down, and I have yet to get stuck.. and I have def got through some stuff I never thought the mini Jeep would.

Selling tires, I see a lot of real world shit. Toyo is made by Nitto. Not bad, but not my cup o tea. Don't know enough about maxxis, but their off-road stuff is THE SHIT

Generals are decent, but I've always seen wet weather problems with even their on road tires. Continental makes Generals.

Thanks for the info. The way I understand it that size tire with my offset should be ok. May need minor trimming based on what the guys at rebel offroad had on their setup.

That's good to know about the nitto's. I don't plan on any heavy off roading any time soon but I'd rather not have that risk. I'm going to pass on the maxxis. More money than I want to spend right now. I don't need a super aggressive tire right now. Mostly road driving but with summer coming up here in Utah, hiking and camping season will begin soon.

Any info on the falken wild peak at's?
