I've never had an infotainment center in my personal vehicle. Is it worth the $$$ to put one in my soon to be renegade? The back up camera might be nice, but thats pretty much all that's, even slightly, moving me to get one. Thoughts would be appreciated.
I am spoiled because of the backup camera. I also enjoy the ability to play music on my phone through Bluetooth. I feel that they could've designed it better, but it hasn't given me any real problems besides taking a while to start pairing automatically. I only have it because it was the only car on the lot with a manual transmission (which I wanted).
I'm going with a manual also. I listen to sports talk radio, Soooo, I'm thinking I don't NEED it. It's not a huge upcharge, but I could put that towards other mods or other toys. Reverse camera would be a plus, but not a deal breaker. Dang decisions.
I don't even know what the non uconnect is like. I love the camera because there's a pretty hefty blind spot. And for the time being I'm loving sxm radio, but it's only because of the free year...
I admit I am spoiled by the backup camera too and agree that some things could have been designed better. I will say that the more I use it the more features I like. I love the song tagging and now that I have tagged all my favorite sports teams I get notified if a game is being broadcasted and also score updates. Pretty cool.
I don't think I have the tagging feature as I have the smaller uconnect. Although the sports team thing is cool and I didn't know about that.
Like most I love having the reverse camera but the quality of it is crap, especially at night. I have a 2016. I don't ever use the navigation and I only use Bluetooth for audio. I would say if you only are considering it for the camera just skip the system and get an aftermarket plug and play reverse camera. I have a 2012 wrangler and I'm looking to install one on there soon.
I drive an ambulance as an EMT, so blindspots are the norm. I'm leaning towards no uconnect. I liked it when mechanics worked on cars, not IT guys. I can work on a machine, motherboards and codes, not so much. Another reason for the manual transmission. Thanks for all the input folks.
If in the u.s.a. just get a manual latitude. It will come decently equipped and wont be much more than a optioned sport. To be honest in todays age the uConnect 5.0 should be the standard deck. It works well and is a versatile system and comes standard in the Latitude. The 3.0 is just plain stone age. If you ever decide you want more you will be hosed. FCA cars dont retrofit their own decks let alone aftermarket, at least on a budget. So if you do go tech savy or get hooked on pod casts the 3.0 base system will be years behind.
I just "built" a sport and latitude in the Jeep website. It's about a $1000 difference, latitude costs more. What's the difference between the 2? Both are manual 4x4 with mysky and keyless entry. The latitude had more options, 18 in wheels, etc. Now I'm seriously thinking of a latty. Dang!
Lets see Lati's come with Fogs, Cruise, A/C, Heated Mirrors, Driver seat has a few more adjustments, Alloy wheels, Automatic headlights and wipers, and a few other chauchkees. Adding these things after the fact is not doable on some and will easily add up to your $1000. So keep that in mind. I am a fan of the 16" wheels b/c getting a meatier tire is easier. those 18"s tend to be restricted to on-road vehicle tires. Also the only set-up in my mind to get is the Turbo Manual. your going to love it. I took mine into the Rocky Mountains today for Spring skiing and the truck did it like a dream. My buddy was blown away about how nice our over-all drive was. Never did it lack the needed power, even going up Loveland pass at 10K + feet.
