I'm itching to get some aftermarket stuff for my trailhawk. I'm thinking wheel spacers and a roof basket first. Any thoughts? Comments?
That's a good start, figure out what tires you want so you can work towards them. Are the BFG TKO2s good enough for you? or do you want more aggressive. Lots of good write ups here to follow.
Doesn't sound like a bad plan. How much do you honestly think you will you use the roof basket, enough to justify the cost? I wanted one originally, but after seeing how much it was going to set me back I really didn't think I would use it enough personally to justify spending 500+ bucks on a nice crossbar/basket combo.
I'm not going to spend alot on a basket the Curt ones are like 150 bucks. I'm honestly only going to use it maybe a couple times a year. I just like the looks of them. Next year i plan on getting a set of the all terrains.
Agreed. I love the looks of a basket combo and I'm not saying I'll never get one. I'll just be more patient and wait to find one on Craigslist or something. For now all I really "need" is a set of crossbars to occasionally attach my Maxtrax. Having had modified every vehicle I've ever owned (and it's been a lot!) at times unnecessarily my suggestion is to drive it stock for awhile to get a feel for it then make decisions on what mods you want. Way easier said than done...lol Goodluck Eric and looking forward to see what all you do to it!
Yea this renegade will stay mostly stock nothing to crazy. Now my jk on the other hand, that's going to be a different story haha
I got my basket and rails on eBay for a total of $200. The bars are a whispbar knockoff for $60, and the basket is a rola vortex for $138 shipped. I pllastidipped the rails black for a more streamlined look. I can provide links if this set up interests you.
There is a little bit of wind noise, but no whistling what so ever. It's really not that bad and just depends on which way the wind is blowing on any given day. I've gotten it on the highway doing about 80 mph and it's barely there. I put the rack farther back on the roof to try to avoid the whistling, and it seemed to work.
